Paka Clinic

Our Aim

Paka Clinic is the first clinic in Zanzibar dedicated to improving the lives of street cats who share this island with us. Our main goal is to reduce animal suffering and to keep the cat population healthy through our ongoing Trap-Neuter-Return Campaign. Not only do we use veterinary skills to heal the suffering, we also promote Animal Welfare, which means educating and advising Zanzibari residents about the needs and the well-being of the cats.  When the public understand that a healthy cat population also means a healthy human population, our goal will be have been achieved.

What We Do

Street Patrols

Every Monday to Friday morning we patrol the streets of Stone Town on foot, visiting colonies that we are monitoring and also attending cases brought to our attention.

Neutering services for restaurants and hotels

Many hotels and restaurants battle with the intrusion of cats. While relocating the cats might seem an obvious solution, this doesn't resolve the problem but creates a vacuum scenario.

Treatment of pets

At our Malindi Clinic and, 'soon-to-launch' Mombasa Clinic, we examine and treat your pets by administering medications and performing operations when necessary.

Boarding for your pets

We are currently in the process of setting up boarding facilities for pets for owners who periodically need to travel away from Zanzibar.

Travel permits

From international adoption to immigration reasons, we are able to assist you with importing or exporting your four-legged friend.

EVENT

Cat Walk Tour

Our close work with cats in the community, together with our relationships with community carers has given us insights to develop a fun and informative walking tour of Zanzibar City, focused just on cats!

The tour takes place at night-time, when cats come out of their hiding places to look for food. If you would like to meet some of Stone Town’s four-legged residents, and help us further the training of our tour guides with reviews, remarks and questions, join us on Mondays. We meet at 7pm in front of our Paka Clinic in Malindi for a 2 hour (approximately)  walk.
We count on your support!
